A Pump Class & Saying Goodbye

Cross Training

I've decided I can't run every day otherwise I'm going to keep getting injured.  So yesterday I went to the gym and did the new release pump class.   As you can imagine I'm quite stiff today but thankfully my hip seems completely healed (at last!).

My new best friends are my theraband and my foam roller.  I wish my physio could see how well-behaved I'm being :)

Saying Goodbye

Two of the twins' therapists are both returning to their home countries this week.  It will be a huge loss for Australia as good ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) therapists and especially BCBAs (Board Certified Behaviour Analysts) are in very short supply here.  One of the reasons I think the twins did so well is they had fantastic, experienced and qualified therapists.  And today it is paying off :).  We will miss them.

They came over for afternoon tea to say goodbye and my mother-in-law cooked up a storm….quiches, chicken sandwiches, scones and caramel slices - yummo.

She set the table with her great Aunt's hand embroidered table cloth and special tea cups and saucers.  It was a wonderful afternoon.

Poor Neglected Blog, Poor neglected body

Long time no blog.  I injured my hip doing the City To Surf and have struggle to run ever since.  I think its finally on the mend so I'm focusing on cross training and very slowly running without any pain.  Yesterday I joined a gym to help with my strength work and hopefully prevent any more injuries.  Yesterday I tested my hip by doing a very slow 15 minutes on the treadmill (7km and hour!) and then did a pump class.  Today I'm really sore so I'll take a day off.

I hope to keep blogging but am so busy juggling work/uni/family.  I'll at least try and log my training.

Next week I'm off to Alice Springs for a week for a Clinical Teaching Block.  I'm going to miss my family :(.  Its really hot there so I indulged in a bit of retail therapy.  My swimmers had disintegrated so I really needed some new ones.  Can you tell I'm into stripes at the moment?  All from Target and there was a special - $20 if you spend $100.  Lets just say, ahem, I qualified for the special :-).
Love stripes

Did you notice my sphygmomanometer in the background! :)

Injury and Life Update

Injury

So I went out for a test jog on Wednesday morning.  It felt so good to be out running (shuffling actually). But unfortunately in the afternoon my leg ached and has been aching on and off.  I think it needs at least another couple of weeks off.  Meanwhile, I'm packing on the weight and being cranky.  One of my local gyms was offering a 2 week trial so I decided I had to do something.  So today I went to my first pump class in a decade.  The instructor said 'don't worry nothing much has changed'  …'except the music' I replied (and I also should have added 'and my body' :-).  It was so much fun.  I just did squats instead of lunges and was ultra aware of my hammy as I don't want to set myself back.  It was fun and I'm keen for the next class.
Seems like a distant memory - but a fantastic one!

I only bought this after the race when there was a 50% off sale -  I LOVE it!

Life

My exams are over!!!!  YIPEE!!!! No more anatomy and physiology - until next semester :-(.  Like a good mature aged student I studied very hard and know that I've passed this subject (phew). The thought of repeating it is motivation enough.

Next week I have an interview at the aged care facility I did my placement at so that I can do some casual work there.  The interview is a formality so I pretty much know I'm in.  I'm a bit nervous.  Without saying too much the residents are very high care and there is a lot to do.

Autism
The boys are chugging along well.  School is going well, soccer is going well.  They've been invited to TWO  parties this term.  I am so happy/relieved about this.   Although I hate stereotypes I can't help but have them in the back of my mind.  One is that kids with ASD have no friends/ don't get party invites etc.   My tip, is to have playdates and foster friendships with the kids and between yourself and the other mums. Its rewarding on so many levels.  If you need to get specific social skills help (and which kid on the spectrum doesn't!) I would ask to focus on skills relevant to playdates.

T2 is 'star of the week' at his school.  He got a special certificate in assembly outlying all is wonderful characteristics.  The kids love it and its a lovely touch.
